About Us
Mossy Lea Tales is based in Ireland and brings great works of literature into family life by reshaping them for reading aloud to young children.
Writers like Shakespeare are full of scenes children would love—but the original texts don’t work when read aloud to a seven-year-old.
Rather than reproducing the entire text of the classic work, we select the best individual scenes, rich in excitement, humor, or pathos—moments that remain compelling to a modern child.
Each scene is followed by a small number of thoughtfully framed questions, designed to help parents and children linger over the story and talk about what has just happened.
Schools teach children how to read; this collection is concerned with what happens alongside that—reading together at home, through voice, rhythm, and repetition.
Over time, these stories become familiar. Children return to them, anticipate what comes next, and begin to recognize patterns of courage, mistake, consequence, and resolve.
Over one hundred stories are available for download on this site, giving children an introduction to a wealth of literature previously unknown to them.
We believe stories are meant to be shared aloud.
And that reading together still matters.
